Mary Caesar was born into the Kaska First Nation and has been a lifelong resident of Upper Liard, Yukon. Her parents, Alfred and Minnie Caesar, passed on to her the traditional teachings and skills of her people. In the fall of 1999, Mary left her Northern home to take part in the Fine Arts Diploma program at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo, BC. While at school she studied sculpture, ceramics, photography, earth art and painting.
Acrylic paint on canvas has become Mary’s primary form of artistic expression. While her early work was quite realistic, over the years her brush strokes have become more spontaneous and expressive, often leading to expressionistic or abstract paintings. Images from her days in the Lower Post, BC residential school, and her experiences as a First Nation woman, are frequently the subject of her work. Landscapes are Mary’s observations of the Yukon and home. Mary also paints in oils and also works in different styles such as, still life, portraits, Kaska Dena culture and Northern lifestyles.
Mary has participated in several major exhibitions including, Traditions of Change, Noramerika Native Museum, Zurich, Switzerland, 2005; Nanghághinda (Watch Over the Earth), Yukon Arts Centre Public Gallery, Whitehorse, Yukon, 2003 and Raven Trix, Yukon Art Center Public Gallery, Whitehorse, Yukon, 2001.

The Naysayers (@naysayersband) are a sub-arctic indie rock four piece from Whitehorse, Yukon. Forged in the freezing cold, these boreal belles blend elements of punk, pop, and alt-rock, that feels like a punch in the gut and a warm embrace at the same time. Led by veteran singer-songwriter Drea Nasager, her visceral lyrics, powerful vocals, and emotional intensity combine with rich melodies and unrelenting energy to create songs as spellbinding as the northern lights. In a sea of similarity The Naysayers cut though.

An artist of settler heritage, Nicole Bauberger (@baubergernicole) has made her home in Kwanlin, aka Whitehorse, since 2003. Her work comprises many different disciplines depending what the moment calls for, rooted in a five year honing of her skills in oil paint as a full time apprentice, then assistant painter. She has been strengthened by the learning friendships she treasures with the Elders she has spent time sewing with, Mrs. Annie Smith in particular.
When Covid stuck, she created an ad hoc gallery in the scrubby trees along the dog walking trails behind her house. She is delighted that the running and hiking app Trailforks has independently named this trail after the Dalton Trail Trail Gallery. Ceramic and glass have recently beguiled her attention, especially Yukon clay and the bottles we can't recycle up here anymore. One way or the other, performance as a gesture and a concept often play a part in the curious ways she approaches her art practice.

Stormy Bradley (@stormybradley_arts) is a Crow Clan member of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and lives in Dawson City. Her work is centered around conversations about Indigenous femininity, power and resilience.
Exposed to art all of her life, Stormy began reconnecting with her artistic heritage after attending the Adӓka Cultural Festival in Whitehorse, Yukon. Witnessing the beauty and variety of Indigenous artwork presented in the Adӓka gallery, Stormy was inspired to begin sewing.
She first learned to bead from an Elder at the Skookum Jim Harvest Camp - an annual event bringing together her community to build relationships with each other and the land. Stormy works from a nature-inspired palette and is informed by the Yukon flora, fauna and landscape, particularly in and around Chu Niikwän (Yukon River). Use of locally sourced furs and hides support Stormy’s journey to connect with her culture and express her pride as an Indigenous woman.
Major themes in Stormy’s work respond to the strength of Indigenous women, reclaiming and destigmatizing Indigenous sexuality and critiquing misogyny in mass media. Her role as a mother has strongly influenced the introduction of gender equality into her work and she regards her daughter as a major source of inspiration.
Stormy is a recent graduate of the foundation year program at the Yukon School of Visual Arts in Dawson City. Her latest group show, Strength and Sexuality: A Resurgence of Indigenous Self-Expression, was exhibited at Arts Underground in Whitehorse in March 2021.

Having worked with drawing, multimedia (collage) and printmaking (serigraphy and intaglio), she is currently focusing on painting with both acrylics and oils. She experiments with different paints and styles to create bold, balanced, and whimsical compositions of landscapes and people, that resist falling in line with any certain coherence and keep you guessing as to where she will go next.

Sharon Vittrekwa (Shademoine) is a Tetlit Gwich’in First Nation artist with strong ties to family in Vuntut Gwich’in, Alaska and many Yukon First Nations.
Sharon received extensive traditional knowledge training from her grandparents and her Elders of the Tetlit Gwich’in and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nations. Since a young age she has been dependent on her arts and crafts to make a living. Sharon is inspired by her late grandmother, Sarah Vittrekwa, who tanned skins and furs and sewed for the hunters of the family. It is through this time with her grandmother that she first learned to sew.
As a respected knowledge keeper, Sharon has a strong connection to healing plants and gains inspiration for her work from the flowers, plants and sacred sites she encounters while on her medicine gathering walks.
Sharon is a residential school survivor and spent decades reconnecting with her family, language, culture and art forms.
As a traditional artist, she honours her traditions by respecting her ancestors and how they visualized beauty through unique floral designs. Sharon’s work is available at @unorthodox and @yfnarts.

Rebecca Manias (@rebeccamanias)is a visual artist whose practice focuses on painting, printmaking, and mixed-media art. They are strongly influenced by the legitimate and fictionalized interpretations of the occult, primarily as it relates to feminism and mysticism. Rebecca received their MSc. in Contemporary Art History from the University of Edinburgh in 2010, and their B.A in Visual Arts and Art History from McMaster University in 2007. Rebecca has participated in group and solo exhibitions throughout Canada and the U.K., and is also actively engaged in a curatorial practice, and scenic design and art direction for various artistic projects and productions within Canada. Rebecca currently resides as an uninvited settler on the traditional territories of the Ta'an Kwach'an Council and Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
Rebecca recently exhibited their body of work ‘And other dimensions of portraiture’ at Arts Underground in April 2021. This exhibition was about the reversal of the ‘male gaze’, a term popularized by feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey and art critic John Berger.
“In my work I investigate the idea of myth and its relationship to intersectionality. I want to be a part of a world where a baseline of equality across race, gender, identity and ideas surrounding the body, exist as the status quo. As such, I explore these constructs in my artwork through literal and abstracted presentation.”

Brigitte Jardin derives inspiration from traditional country, old-time & Cajun repertoire. She navigates between guitar, washboard, drums, vocals & foot percussion. As a queer bilingual woman, Brigitte incorporates French and English songs that explore gender themes as part of her performance. She usually plays with a supporting band malleable to the occasion, including slide guitar, fiddle, upright bass & drum kit.
Brigitte creates a soundscape that is both familiar and unique. She pays tribute to women roots singers who impacted the industry, such as Cléoma Breaux, the first Cajun woman who recorded music in Louisiana; Gallant tu perds ton temps, the first traditional all-women band in Québec; and Barbara Dane, a political activist and folk-singer from Michigan.
Originally from Quebec, Brigitte was involved full-time in the Montreal music scene as a drummer. She is now a renowned artist in the Yukon, actively performing with Ryan McNally, Claire Ness and many more for the past eight years. Brigitte Jardin has now decided to focus her time, work & love on her country-folk musical project.

Doug Smarch Jr. was raised in the traditional lifestyle of the Inland Tlingit People of Teslin, Yukon. Not always with means, his childhood was rife with the innovation and utilization of the natural environment by his parents Doug and Jane Smarch. From a young age he was taught to cherish any available materials and to have respect for all things living and inanimate; setting the foundation for finding value and story where one may otherwise not be perceived. Doug learned stone, bone and wood carving under the watchful eye of family and community artisans. His scholastic career began with an Associates of Fine Arts Degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts (1999) where he made the National Dean’s List of the United States and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honours Society. This was followed by a BFA from the San Francisco Arts Institute (2001), where he was honoured as the first recipient of the TC Cannon Scholarship Award and culminated with an MFA in Design Media Arts from UCLA (2004), as a recipient of the Goth Scholarship. Doug’s award winning art is in public and private collections around the world and his exhibitions include: 2015 PANAM Games Toronto; the National Gallery of Canada; EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan; the Museum of Native Americans in Zurich, Switzerland; and the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver, BC.
